Consulting servicesQualitative research methods; The optimal design for research projects to make the most of the Provalis text mining and content analysis software and research methodology for the analysis of free text data.

It is often difficult to analyse large data sets of textual data due to the size of the task, the complexities of the language and the difficulties of aggregating the key themes manually. This work package will provide text mining and content analytical support or can provide training to introduce the methods of content analysis available and offer an opportunity for the teams collating these data sources to understand the methods available for the analysis of free text data and what can be achieved using commercial content analysis software.

The role of the Provalis training package offered is to support business professionals and data analysts make use of the data they capture in the form of free text and to assist with information assimilation. The source of the data may include information from electronic records, administration processes, staff feedback, satisfaction survey data, safety data, process and performance records or data from one to one interviews, focus groups or workshops. The data may be in the form of interview transcripts, written articles or reports, clinical narrative, transcripts from speeches and any form of electronic communication.

The methods presented include text mining of large sets of textual or conversational data and stratification of data into themes for analysis using dictionary categorization.

Summary of work package

The work package offers a choice of three of services:

1. Bespoke text data analysis can be offered as a consultation service to assist with your teams analytical needs

2. The Workshop – A one day introduction to the value and use of the Provalis software for text mining and content analysis and how it may assist with your business needs.
The workshop will introduce the benefits of content analysis and explain how the methods used may be of benefit to a business environment where data collection includes the capture of textual or conversational data in particular survey data or interview transcripts.

3. The Training Course - An introduction to methods of content analysis and text mining for data analysis. The course can be designed to meet your particular training requirements and will introduce your team to the Provalis software packages, Wordstat, SimStat and QDA Miner

Where will the sessions be delivered?
All sessions will be delivered by Dr Julie Jones-Diette. Dr Jones-Diette has used the Provalis Content Analysis software for many years for both academic and health research and is a Provalis recommended instructor for text mining and content analysis using the WordStat analytical software.

All training will delivered at your own place of work and will include analysis of your own data to ensure the training is relevant to your own needs.

After training support can be offered to any participant attending the course who may feel they required refresher training or after training support with queries or issues. The Provalis Research team are also an excellent source of support for license holders with ad hoc queries or software issues.

ExperienceMost of my research focus has been in healthcare, however the methods utilised are the same across all type of business and wherever it is desirable or necessary to examine and analyse free text and data content. I have used such methods to design early warning systems based on aeronautical research and to analyse safety data to identify root cause and perform risk analysis.

My application of these advanced analytical techniques can assist with the understanding of staff and customer satisfaction, influence business strategy and assess the success of new initiatives.

The Provalis software and associated training can support text mining and content analysis at all levels of ability. Textual analysis can unlock a wealth of data to assist with:
 Identifying gaps in current knowledge
 Understanding customer or client behaviours
 Measuring impact
 Helping to develop best practice
 Identifying and applying measures of success for new initiatives
 Improving business performance and intelligence
EducationPhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Informatics specialising in Evidence-based research, text mining and content analysis.
